Experiment 5: Introduction to Sound

The purpose of this lab is to deepen our understanding of sound waves.
The procedure: we set up a microphone with labPro and recoded the voice of two students and a tuning fork.

Me
I would say the wave periodic since it repeats the pattern. We determined there are 2 waves.  One wave has two peaks. The probe collects data for 0.03 seconds which is like a flash of lightning. The period is the difference in time for the two peaks.  The frequency is
To find the wavelength we use
v is the speed of sound of 340m/s.   The amplitude is the difference between the highest peak to the lowest trench.

Period(s)
0.0135
Frequency(Hz)
74.112
Wavelength(m)
4.6
Amplitude
0.261

Quoc

The graphs are similar in shape but Quoc has a lower period. The most significant difference is he has a larger amplitude since he was louder.

Period(s)
0.0153
Frequency(Hz)
65.359
Wavelength(m)
5.2
Amplitude
0.848

Tuning fork

The graph is sinusoidal compared to human voice.

Softer tuning fork

The amplitude is smaller but the period and frequency is the same.
